New guy from Alberta with M38CDN
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:16:56 AM »
Hello all.

My name is Mike, not new to jeeps but new to the cj3a/M38 scene. I picked up a Ford M38CDN, licence built Canadian Version of the Willys M38. It's a 1952, but all Canadian M38 are 52's as they only made them for the one year.

I picked up the Jeep from a fellow club member from our local jeep/off-road club. The good news is she's in great shape, no rot or major rust and is drivable and insured. Bad news is she's had a motor and axle swap. Currently running locked Dana 30 up front and 44 in the rear. Powered by a GM 4.3 V6. Sadly I don't have the original power train so I can't swap back.

Let me figure out how to post pictures and I'll let you have a look!o

Cheers Mike

I'm in Rutherford, as far as you can get from the NE part of the city!  The Jeep's axles, engine, drive train and some assorted parts are here, too.  The newly painted frame is out at my cabin NE of the city (near Thorhild), along with the rusted out body and some assorted junk.  (The body is a repro, so I'm not going to restore it--I'll just buy another repro.)  My next task is to buy some new springs and put the axles back on the frame...  Actually, I should get new tires and paint the wheels first, so the mounted axles/frame can sit on rubber instead of stands!

There's a guy near me with a restored '42 (??) Ford GPW, complete with machine gun mount.  I saw him a few times two summers ago (and talked to him once), but I didn't seem at all last summer.  I wondered if he had moved, but I did see him driving around once this summer, too.

Ok, going to try to post a few pictures, fingers crossed. This picture is about an hour after I trailered it home.

And this one is how she looks today, the tan colour of the grill is the colour I'll be painting the entire jeep. The bikini top is from a late model cj5, and fits rather well.

Sorry for the crappy pictures ;)
