Old Jeeper, new 3A

Hi all!  I'm Randy from North east Minnesota, aka: HillBillE (username on all forums)

Just aquired a '52 CJ3A  (to my best guess, PO said it was a '53, but the ser# reads: 452 GBI 10197 )

It's not in great shape, but for a MN Jeep, it would be classified as 'Awesome Shape' ;D

I was able to drive it home (only a 1 mile drive) so that is always a plus!



My dad and I are also working (slowly) on restoring a '46CJ2A

Nice collection...and a very nice 3A.   452 GB1 10197...I believe will actually make it a very early 1952.  

I have a 1949 3A.  It was orginally titled as a 1950 because it was sold by the dealership in 1950.  I think this was a fairly common occurrence back then.

Get us some close up photos.  From here, that looks super clean.

Getting ready for deer season here, but I'll get some more pics up.

It's not to bad, the floor pans are starting to rot, but the seat mounts, and the rear floor/fenders are solid still.


The trans leaks bad, I just went through and topped off the fluids, and changed the engine oil.  Well, the trans has leaked almost all the 80W-90 out on the floor of the shop :'(

I do have a spare Trans and T-case from a '47 2A, most likely throw that in, and go through the one from the '52.

It shifts great, and the trans is tight.

Engine smokes a bit, can keep the mosquitoes away!

The '52 actually leaves less of a mess on the floor than my '80 CJ7! ;D

Just noticed you were from MN. I grew up in Hopkins and my parents still live there. Right now I am almost directly across the lake from you in Houghton!

Jeep looks 100% nicer than what most people start with, good score.

It's a whole lot nicer than the two CJ2A's we picked up a few years ago.

The upper midwest is hard on old rigs!

Welcome Tim, and keep in touch, the Northstar Chapter IFFC is looking for a few good men, we only have 3 -actives so far.  I'd love to jeep the Northeast MN area.

Hey Todd!  There are some awesome roads up by the border, between the Gunflint and Arrowhead trails, that were made for old Jeeps!

And the fall colors are just as nice as the ones you posted in your '100 mile' trip!  (but they arrive around the end of Sept/1st week of Oct)

The drive up the North Shore of Lake Superior is really nice also, or for more adventure, there is a few back roads that run between Duluth and Grand Marais.

Really hoping to have the 3A ready for the road before next fall, bird hunting from a Flatty is just plain fun!
