My name is Joel I am new to old Jeeps but I have enjoyed newer Jeeps for some time.  I am currently working on my 1952 CJ3A.  I am doing what I call a working man's restore on it.  I bought my CJ because a buddy got one and I drove it once and was hooked.  I am a little impatient so I am trying to keep it drive able during the summer and do major work to it when it is cold here.  This summer I focused on making it mechanically sound.  When I bought it out of a barn not far from where I live the roof had blown in on it.  So the windshield frame was wrecked and the steering column was bent.  It also had a stuck valve (had not run in 15 years).  I tore into the top half of the motor got the stuck valve out learned to grind valves and went through each one.  Anyway long story short after working most of the summer on the motor-new brake lines-master cylinder rebuild-new gas lines-new tank-new fuel pump-carb rebuild- built a new steering column-repaired steering shaft(will replace when I can afford one) I have it running great.  Tranny and transfer case needs some love leaks like a sieve but it is drive able and I have been driving it and enjoying it.  I just bought another CJ3A for parts (with a registered frame may do something with it) It has a perfect hood -windshield frame-correct intake manifold(mine is wrong) so I have a lot to do.  This winter I plan to start body work but not get in so deep I do not have it ready to drive in time for summer..  Ok that was long.. :D

Welcome Joel!

Sounds like you've got a good start going. I can speak from experience that keeping it drivable while fixing it up is a great idea! It's very easy to lose focus on something that all you do is work on and not get to drive. I wish I would have done mine that way; it probably wouldn't have taken 14 years to do it if I had. Any who, there's plenty of knowledge around here for any issues you run into, never hesitate to ask.

Welcome Joel,
You've got the right idea. Keep it drivable as much as possible. It's lots more fun that way.
Unless you're one of those guys with infinite patience who can deal with delayed gratification for months or years.
I'm not one of those. My 3B and my Wagon are both runners and I drive them both every month at least.
I fix what needs fixing as I go along. I can't do a frame up restoration (time, energy, skill, money, etc.) so I'm doing just what you are - a working man's restoration.
And yes, we want pictures. We all like to share each others' fun.

Ouch!  That poor windshield.  Other than that, the Willys looks great.  Where do you guys keep coming up with these "Barn Finds"???  I guess I don't live close to any real barns.

A working man's resto is exactly what I started out doing.  Then all hell broke loose.  

Keep us posted on your project.  Lots of photos. Lots and lots of photos.

Ha..  athawk11 I am trying hard NOT to let all hell break loose(my wife thinks it already has since we now have 3 full CJs and 1 half Cj sitting around)
