New acquision, Lost Biscuit
« on: October 05, 2026, 04:06:19 PM »
This is the late David Eiler's Lost Biscuit "race Jeep".  He didn't get it finished.  As received, frozen up even fire 231, T18 (which would appear to be spanky new), D20 with the D18 2.46:1/Bronco gear set, flanged, centered D44 w/a Detroit Locker rear axle, and an open D30 up front with an aftermarket disc brake conversion.  The axles and frame are of 73-75 CJ5 origin.  Fiberglass tub/fenders/hood.  The only actual 3A parts are the grill and windshield frame.  David has it sitting on some long (front 46", rear 50") 2.5" wide springs.  And four Desert Dog tires on 10" turbine wheels-3 to 4 decades old?

I'm going to try and preserve David's legacy but there will be more than a few changes to get it road worthy and trail capable.

Glad to see another of Dave's Jeeps go to a great home.  You are the guy for the job!

Is it my imagination or are the headlights smaller than typical?

Yes, Dave liked the smaller 5.5" versions.  As near as I can ascertain at this point, he didn't do any metal work on the grill, just fiberglassed the openings in.  Those are going to revert to something close to stock but I'll likely use the 3B/CJ5/wagon/truck buckets.

The IH  T18 was directly married to the BOP bellhousing using redrilled lower mounting holes with studs.  Dave did not put nuts on those on the inside so all that was supporting the lower studs was about a 1/4" of aluminum.  The caveat here is I don't know that Dave actually finished any of this and it may have been just a setup arrangement.  I'm going to use a cast iron Chevy bell with it-considerably more beef and smooth surface inside.  The T18 appears to be NEW.  Zero wear on anything.
