La Habra Heights VFD On CJ3B Page

Derek,
That was some serious eye-candy!

I'm curious if there was any mention about capacity for either of those tanks mounted on the jeeps.  It sounded like the Fire Chief had a specific need to include them but with water somewhere just above 8 lbs/gal, I was just curious what the "mountain goats" were pulling up the hills.

Good question, Rus!  Randy Johanson, who posted his photo of the CJ-5 on Smugmug, says 300 gallons in the back and 150 gallons in the front.  Not sure where he got that info, but it's obviously a huge over estimate.  Dan Stracner's article about the history of the department says a combined total of 160 gallons in the two tanks, and even that seems high.  So I elected not to include it in my article, and just said that the Jeeps would have to work hard on the hills. My guess from looking at the photos would be maybe 120 gallons?

Thanks for the links.  I was wondering what tanks were being discussed.
