Turn Signal Clips

I read a post in our old Buy/Sell section that really sent me on a “Wild Goose Chase.”

These clips were offered mentioning a turn signal wire



These clips are obviously available for jeeps as these images show them on a CJ-5.






At the time, I wasn’t sure these were ever listed for a 3B specifically, but did see in the Parts Manual a listing for a harness clamp but only for the Sparton with plastic wires. What this clip looked like or where this clip was located was unknown. During my many phone calls to vendors, trying to locate a pair, I was told they may have been standard on a wagon. I was frustrated with the lack of information and posted a request that if anyone knows of a part number, share what you know.

The original part shown in Russ's pic is called a "Sparton harness clamp".
It's found in Group 35-59 as part # 909296 in all CJ and universal parts list (UPL's) beginning with 1955 CJ-5 and later.
Qty. of 1 is required for the Sparton signal equipped jeep.
The harness clamp was first used on 1955 CJ-5 and it immediately became available as jeep special equipment for Sparton equipped CJ-3B's.
The Sparton harness clamp is also correct for use on other jeep models.

Okay!  Mystery solved – mostly.

Since I was adding a turn signal to my jeep, I wanted one or two as they looked period and would look a lot better than zip ties/tape/bailing wire!

Finding and losing out on several Ebay posts, I focused on searching the web. This searching was extensive since I didn’t know what to call them (other than jeep turn signal clips).  Eventually, I found early Fords used a similar clip. I called a vendor, asked questions and ordered a pair (not knowing if they would even fit).  When they arrived, I was surprised at how small they appeared. Even though they fit my steering column, I was still a bit unsure - but I had them in hand.

Shortly afterwards, I saw another set of jeep clamps on Ebay. I won this bid and when they arrived, I got to compare the two.



The rusted clip is the jeep clip. Dimensionally they are very close.

To me the Ford version seems to be a snugger fit. If you choose to get a set for yourself, those curly ends could be cut off to look more like the jeep version if that sort of thing bothers you.

Finally, I ended the original post sharing that I had a visit with Harry Sheets at the Midwest Reunion to get some wiring/tube clips and noticed he had a bin with about a dozen of these harness clips (along with a million other parts!).

They seemed to be reasonably priced. 

To make this post more current, I’ve noticed many old websites are gone including some of my go-to antique vehicle vendors.  I did a google search using an image of the clips making the search a bit easier.  Instead of posting the actual link (who knows, maybe that would change also).  Copy the image and do your own image search, pick out one that matches what you see.
