1954 Cj3b paint

Hey rus!  It’s a late 54, 34689.   I tried a ppg automotive paint store an thats the place that told me it wasnt a good enough sample?  Napa said they could match it so i went with it! Big mistake it wasnt even close?  I dont know what the actual color is called,  being a late 54 I’ll look at the paint chips from 55?? Thanks for your interest.

Yeah, I went around to several paint outlets before finding a shop that could match the codes for a couple of sample cards.  I didn't have anything to take to them to even ask if they could match it.  I should have mentioned that while the codes are posted on each paint, those codes most likely may need to be translated into modern codes to allow matching. I remember reading that about PPG.

There is a close match in 55, Steelglow gray poly?  Is poly a metallic ?.

I don't know.  My paint, "Island Green Metallic," states it. 

More info:  Did a search and found a thread about Mustangs where the same question is asked.  Read the thread to see that Poly is used to describe metallic.

Yes, poly is metallic.  Boy, they really slathered the paint on that toolbox.

The 1955 Steelglow Gray Poly is very similar to 1953 Cadet Gray, which is sometimes but not always listed as poly. Vintage Jeep Paint calls their version "Cadet Gray Poly" (see https://vintagejeeppaint.com/shop/ols/categories/willys-overland-1942-1952?page=4). 
Those two look much closer to your paint than the darker 1954 Persian Gray Metallic or Gale Gray Poly, although matching colors in photos is not very reliable. (Your photo looks like it was taken with a mix of daylight and tungsten light.)

Your serial number is relatively late in the 1954 model year -- I'm guessing a couple of months before the changeover to 1955.  But I wouldn't have thought that was late enough that they would be starting to switch to new paint. 

If you're not having luck with paint dealers, maybe you could try a small can of "Cadet Gray Poly" from Vintage Jeep Paint and see how that looks.
