Last one to resurrect - My new girl 1951 cj3a!
« on: February 03, 2025, 08:25:57 AM »
Dear friends
I don't know how badly I had been infected by the the cj3a bug!
Well, in short my search for cj3a took me 25 years and 20 jeeps to complete my cj3a line up.

The last of the cj3as ,I found a1949 and a 1951 cj3a together. The 1951 was taken only after completion of the 1949 cj3a due to extreme restoration needs.
We had to rebuild the motor twice owing to an inexperienced mechanic doing the rebuild.
Fast forward>>>>
Did the complete mechanical assembly myself including the carter 636sa, brakes and the ac fuel pump.
Body work finished in time when I could spare some free time from work.
Decided to get her painted in potomac grey as I don't have that in my stable and being the correct one for 1951.
Hope you all enjoy pics of the 1951 cj3a . Special to me, as it completes my cj3a line up from 1949 - 1953.
Will keep the forum posted as I get going with the assembly and first drives.
Thanks and best wishes.
Dinesh

It's not a bad disease to have will your resources.  Looks like you saved another Willys.  Looking good.  What's next for the stable???

Looks like a very good job. Anxious to see the Jeep all put together. Then a line up shot of all your vehicles.

Thanks friends. Next in the pipeline is a 1942 May gpw and a 1961 pickup truck.
Will keep you all posted with the progress on this one.
Hope to finish this by the month end.
A picture I have been waiting for the last two decades, 1949- 1953 cj3as lined up. That will be a dream come true in a single stable.

So friends after nearly 20 days of the 51 cj3a getting painted, I could squeeze some time out to get started.
The tub assembled, next was to get the foot man loops and other small parts to be fitted on the Jeep.
Electricals was next in line and today we finished the wiring part of the restoration.
Again time for a work break, hope to get her moving and completed by next week end possibly before the month end.

More updates.
Most of the parts assembled on the 3a today.
Gas tank, Windshield glass and driver side seat remaining to be fixed back.
Next would be highlighting the Willys script and changing tyres.

That's a sharp looking jeep!  Nice work!  The clamps holding the windshield to the cowl, are they plated or painted?

Weekend update.
The 1951 girl is near complete with all accessories loaded on it.
Took her out for a short first drive, and believe me she was as peppy and looked in great shape.

Update!
Completed with the Willys highlighting and 4 wheel drive logo on the tail gate. Last phase would be getting the sleeves stitched for tail gate chains and fixing those back on the Jeep.
