Antifreeze Coming From Front Exhaust Manifold Stud Hole

When reinstalling my CJ3B exhaust manifold after painting I noticed that the stud would not completely tighten down. Hoped that the other three studs would hold the manifold tightly enough and went about adding antifreeze and getting the engine ready to start. After starting I noticed fumes coming from around the manifold. obviously not tight enough. I removed the stud and noticed antifreeze flowing from the stud hole. It seems that the stud must have broken through into the cooling chamber behind it. I could install a heliocoil, but with no bottom to the stud hole the stud would still not tighten. Any ideas how I might solve this problem? Help!

Hi Bill,
All 5 manifold stud holes on the F134 motor penetrate the water jacket.
Most folks use permatex sealer on the studs.
Paragraph E102 on page 85 of the Willys Jeep Universal Service Manual describes the manifold installation procedure with torque specs.

Yes, if any are stripped out, a helicoil is a pretty good fix.
