In my opinion the original engine serial number is 353446?1. That makes it a Henry J engine from 1951 ~ 1952 time frame. Just speculating, but the U22268 number looks like an overstamp, probably related to a state VIN number issue. What is the engine block casting number?

Ill get it this week-end,but it looks to be 641087 series and the rest needs solvent and a brush due to road grim.

unfortunately, It is not original.  Buyers beware. i think I've seen one Henry J in 60 years of my lifetime.  I wonder if hand stamps are from any mass rebuild of the early era for work order ID.

Also noted the #1 firing position is at a nominal 2 o'clock position. Dang man there are manuals.

Still fun and runs. What could I want?  Nothing.  Thank for respose.  More to come.

Also noting (and learning) a bolted head with an "industrial" wording cast in the head.  The jeep came with brush guards, rear PTO, and the extra curled front spring the drivers side.

Should have read up more about engines. Still a fun jeep.

Just to clarify what I wrote...
I think the original serial number for that engine was 353446?1. Therefore the engine is not original to a CJ-3A. The other number, U22268, is also not an original engine number for a CJ-3A. I'm thinking this engine has been around.

Bob,

You're exactly right, she's been rode hard and put away wet.

engine makes power, and antifreeze in the radiator seems to go down requiring refill.
