Overdrive Unit Weight
« on: March 08, 2023, 12:16:02 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase an overdrive unit for my 5.88 geared 3B, I'd like to calm the revs down a little as we drive in a mountainous region.

Can anyone tell me how much they weigh? Just a rough figure.

I'm going to try and convince my boss who frequently flies to the States to bring it back with him and I need the info as part of my pitch.

I'd imagine it's quite heavy...

Thanks in advance,

Art C., who owns the Bantam trailer site,

http://bantamt3c.com/

also has some really good info on his jeep site too:

http://48cj2a.com/

He's got a whole section devoted to pto's:

http://48cj2a.com/ptos.htm

and there on that page I found some overdrive stuff as well.

Specifically, this ad that gives the weight of a Warn unit of 25 lbs.

If Bosco doesn't want to mess with the extra weight, he should bring you along on one of the trips (for on job training - of course) and then you call haul it back in your bag!

I seem to recall that the Warn brochure states 23 pounds.
Not sure if that includes the shift mechanism.

You can easily fabricate the shift linkage I did cause I thought the stock set up was pretty rough and sloppy. So yo can drop that of the estimate.  Its compact so would fit in a carry on.

Depending on the application, one may end up fabricating the linkage anyway.  This is what I ended making for my 3B.

Very Nice, and looks sturdy!  Is anyone else missing the recent change to inability to hit "like button" instead of adding a "reply"? (or doing "both")

Thanks guys, really appreciate the info and that linkage looks a lot better than the one they sell in the kit.
