i got a 2a in oct 2022, it lives at my wife's parents due to lack of room at my home. over the winter when i have time i'm getting in to it so i know what i have. the oil filter housing was empty aka no filter, and both the oil lines were gone. i pulled the fuel pump, only to find a bolt in the engine block of the out bound oil line.  pulled the oil pan, oil was like tar. i pulled rod caps, and 2 main bearing caps all look nice. i primed the oil system, and rotated the crank. felt smooth

 how much damage could have been done by plugging the oil filter line ?

Since that is not a full-flow oil filter, blocking it off had no effect of the lube system other than just having unfiltered oil in the system. As long as the oil was changed frequently, probably no damage was done.

I'm assuming you're planning on fixing the filter? 

I've read a lot of owners cleaning out the gunk and verifying all other systems working (electrical, fuel, etc) and firing it up.  They remark on how smooth it runs after lying dormant.

Once you've got it running, you will be able to go through and check settings.  If it runs, and you end up getting good readings on compression pressure, you may not need to worry about tearing into it too much.  Unless you've got time, then you could reset with a rebuild.

I've not had much experience with tar in the oil pan, but after flushing some good oil through, it may be a good idea to consider ensuring ZDDP in the oil you're going to run on.

 thanks, i wasn't sure if the front timing gears got lubed via the nozzle of the filter was gone.

 i flushed the oil system with atf. aka i primed the oil system with a quart of atf. A lot of crap came out the bottom. oil pick up and pan are up. went to put in oil and the dip stick tube was was loose and cruddy. so that is now cleaned and half painted. power wire needs cleaned were the battery clamp goes. got a spare cable for a poss bad ground mess/ wire. battery should be good? later in the week, we ll see if it spins. not sure of starter or solenoid ?  if they are good then test for compression. thanks for the zink in oil idea. i got 15-40 diesel oil to get it started. if it looks like it will run it will get oil lines and filter

a bolt that holds the starter Bendix in place, came loose. and looked more like a rivet. lol so it was loose for a well. after the bendix is on. well try again

You should check the size of the gear lube nozzle.  They were originally 0.070” but were later reduced to 0.040” to help increase oil pressure.  The oil lines were probably plugged to help increase the oil pressure.  You might be able to find a 0.040” nozzle or You could plug the hole and drill a 0.040 hole.

thanks, i saw the vintage jeeper / sal walters sells them as well.   hard to belive that a bendix is 70$ or more. trying to find a used 6 volt starter that won't cost a arm and a leg.
