Cj3a hand wiper
« on: August 18, 2022, 10:23:09 AM »
Hi all,
I'm installing an electric wiper motor on my cj3a, on the drivers side. I considered the original vacuum style, but remembered the air assist wipers on my Freightliner, and how crappy they worked, and decided to cheat with the electric.

On the passenger side i want to put on the original hand operated wiper, but seem to be having a problem finding one. I found out from online, the cj2a, and cj3a wipers are of different lengths. I found several sources for the cj2a, bur not a single one for the cj3a.

Does anyone have any sources that have one for the cj3a?

Read here on differences:

https://cj3b.info/Tech/WiperManual.html

In the article, one possibility is to take the short version, cut it and add a splice to make it long enough.  These longer arm manual wipers are hard to find but sometimes turn up in someone's barn or garage.

Another option for possible used sources is Harry Sheets, http://www.midwestwillys.com/, or ebay.

What I'm not sure about is whether the 3A needed the Spacer (part no. 681318) to attach it to the windshield frame, like the 3B (above article refers to this part as a "bracket").

The CJ3A doesn't require the adapter because the passenger wiper passes through the windshield frame tube.

Does anybody knows how a CJ3A manual wiper arm looks like? Does the blade sits parallel to the lower windshield edge just like the driver's wiper arm?

I tried to find a picture so that I could build something that looks like the original, but couldn't find any.
