CJ5ME,
Welcome! The fact you own older jeeps I think will help. I'm always on alert when I look at "restored" vehicles - especially if you don't know the owner that did the work. Those shiny paint jobs can cover up a lot of secrets.
I see an interesting combination of mismatches. I confess I don't know nearly as much as others but if that's a glove box on your instrument panel, I'd wonder if that's a different tub or a spliced tub. You've already identified the donor tailgate, which just reinforces how parts are interchangeable and the instrument cluster panel (similar to M38) also doesn't go with a 3A. Another thing I can see is the driver's seat leg seems to be straddling the transmission cover - either the seat isn't secure or it's another missmatch. The stick shift boots look different. That could either mean custom boots or something different about the drive train. The top may be a nicely built custom (appears to be using OEM style bows). That rear crossmember doesn't look stock (it's symmetrical with a homemade hitch). And those hub caps! Wonder what type wheels are being used?
That's not to say this can't be a good addition to your collection. How it runs and how it fits into what you want is I think more important. You definitely want to really inspect under the tub to see what's there, i.e. hat channels, patch panels, welds, leaks, the rest of the frame, etc. Deviations under the hood may also help you decide (did you get any images there?). Did you get a test drive? Unknowns are fluid status of axles/knuckles, transmission, etc. You can look at oil and coolant.
Most importantly, based on all the above, what's the price? If it's reasonable for what you see and what you intend to do with it, okay. If it's an exorbitant amount based on a "full restoration" I'd be wary.
