Help! Leak at gasket on freshly rebuilt Ross box

I've got a small leak from the gasket on my newly rebuilt Ross box near the bottom-most bolt on the front cover.  I'm wondering how to remedy it. My inclination is to:
A. run a bead of Permatex right stuff around the outside of the gasket. (Is that bubba-ing it up?)
-Or-
B. drain it, clean the surfaces, get some high tack dressing and combine that with the current gasket  (can I reuse this one?)

I've got some Permatex Aviation No. 3, can I use some of that? Please help me,  I really don't want it to leak and I really want to do it right.

Hi, drain, clean and reuse with some gasket sealant. It will anoy you otherwise. If its a new gasket I would reuse after a clean and degrease.

Agree with Percy.  There may be some minor imperfections on the mating surfaces in that area.  Look for burrs or gouges.  Follow the directions for the sealant (give it time to set-if called for) before snugging the bolts down.

My personal technique is to smear #2 perm on the inner edge (inside the bolt hole) so that there will be a seal before the bolt hole, and then around the bolt hole.  It's a bit overkill but I've told myself this will help to keep leaks to a minimum.  I usually smear both sides but this mostly guarantees the gasket will need replacing if opened.

  Originally, there were copper washers on the two bottom bolts. Without them, they will leak. Some Permatex #2 on the threads and under the head of each bolt may do the trick, but I always install the washers.

One thing I certainly made sure of was that the copper washers were at the bottom two bolts on the cover.

Drained,  surfaces cleaned,  sealant applied (and allowed a few minutes to get tacky),  gasket placed, box sealed, waiting the 24 hours before fluids. Wish me luck!
