Tailgate from 1961 CJ5
« on: August 05, 2021, 05:33:55 PM »
I was getting ready to trash this today, but thought I'd post it here first just in case anyone wants it. Free, but I'd have to charge for mailing. It's in bad shape, but what do I know? If there is anyone out there who has a fetish for old Jeep tailgates, PM me and I ll get back with you.

Where are you located, and how much would shipping be to 33157?

Hi, Steve. I’m in the Orlando area. If you’re interested, I’ll take it over to UPS and get the shipping cost.

PM sent.  I was just wondering if you knew how much shipping might cost.  Maybe someone has an immediate use for it, as I was just toying with how it could be used in my mind, not a "need".  Let's see if someone else has a "need" first.  Thanks.

I'm fairly new at "hobby" level metal work but I'd say that's salvageable for sure.

If someone wasn't too worried about perfectly stock contours, they could weld in an off the shelf steel tube at the bottom. If someone wanted it to look stock they could rig up a fairly simple jig to get that bend.

I wouldn't toss it. I tossed a couple of parts years back before a learned what is really possible and I still get mad at myself about it :)

To anyone considering this offer for a tailgate, there's a kit to fix this offered by a member, mike in oregon, on the 2A forum:

https://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/tailgate-repair-section_topic13516_page15.html?KW=tailgate+panel

There's a few pages to this thread but I think this link will open on the last page which gives you all the info needed.

I agree - this looks fixable.
