Is the transmission missing a bolt?

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I was under my CJ3B to grease it and I noticed what looks like a bolt missing from the transmission housing (see attached picture).
I have no idea if there was a bolt before or not as it's the first time I am checking the Jeep since I inherited from my father.

Furthermore there was oil where that missing bolt is, not a lot but just a few drops. Should there be a bolt there?

The jeep has a hard time shifting and I suspect the clutch is damaged/worn out but I haven't found the time to take the transmission down and inspect it.
Also I can't find the model number of the transmission so if anyone can tell where to look for it it will be of great help.

There shouldn't be any oil in the bellhousing so I strongly suspect your rear main seal is leaking.  Worn rings or a non functioning PCV system are high on the suspect list contributing to leaking engine seals, in addition to the seals themselves.  That drain boss is probably threaded for a NPT pipe plug but it is probably best left out if you are leaking oil there.  Engine oil on clutch plates is not something you want.

A lot of things are problematic with this engine and most likely I will be looking to swap it for something better.

I will keep using the jeep this summer while being careful with the gear changes and take it apart in the winter to assess the damage.
