Windshield Hold Down Strap

I bought one of these straps a long time ago.  Haven't got to the point of installing it yet.  While discussing its orientation with Chris Podlesker, I got stumped on something I'm not sure about.  I've only seen a few images of them (including Wade's '55) and never really noticed if there is a correct - or incorrect way to attach it.

Below is an image of my strap that I've fed through the Radiator Guard footman loop (a test fit) thinking that's pretty much it.  But then I noticed a small closed loop in the strap near the stiching.  Is that loop intended to have the footman loop inside so the strap cannot slip back and forth?  Is it something only done on earlier models but not the 3B's - or all models?  Or not at all?

Just curious.

I just installed one a couple days ago on my latest Jeep build.
Yes the footman goes through the small loop when it’s fastened to the grill.
That way the w/s hold down strap is permanently fixed to the grill.
The dip in the middle top of grill is for stuffing the strap when not in use.

Thank you Richard and Oldtime!  Another timely verification to correct my not having an original to compare with.  So, if using the small loop to thread over the footman loop - and using what I "think" to be correct routing for the free end of the strap - the strap should look like the attached pictures?  (I've re-attached the footman loop only hand-tight just in case this isn't correct).

In both images the free end is shown going between the Radiator Guard and footman loop, i.e. behind the small loop, so that the buckle is out front - hanging.  When strapped (either for storage under the hood, or when securing the folded w/s) the free end goes through the buckle forwards.  Correct?
