Engine serial number, identifying
« on: March 10, 2020, 07:45:28 PM »
Being new to these forums and having an old 3A that will be restored, I need a little help! I am diving into a complete restoration as part of a project related to out US Navy historical ship in NY. Even though we will be using a 2A tub in the restoration, I am trying to discern any and all info that I can on this chassis. It's in pretty tough shape (tub-wise) but it is a "runner"!
The engine number has me wondering! Should the second stamp be a "J"?
There is a date plate on the head of 11/17/52
There are no other numbers left on it like frame tags and such.
So, any help is appreciated!

Hello SlaterDoc,
Thanks for sharing the photos, and welcome to the forum.

Other than the windshield, I'm seeing a whole-lotta-2A in your first photo.  What leads you to believe it's a 3A?

Forgot to mention...

Your engine serial looks like a Kaiser Henry J version of the L-134.  I don't know much about them.

Thanks Hawk.
You are correct in that there is a lot of 2A on this! The tub is as well! Better seen from this vantage point.
It was advertised as a 52 CJ3A. But, the only 3A I can see or find is the windshield. Then the only thing that says "52" is the engine tag. Since the last year for the 2A's was 49, I would love for this frame to be a 2A and be more properly attached to the 47, 2A tub i bought! That engine may be a replacement and not original to the chassis. I still have to pick up the tub and I am hoping the 'tub number" is on the toe support! It is going to be a task figuring out this jeeps pedigree!
Me thinks, I may have to pack up my bags (and pics) and move over to the 2A page! :(

From what I can see, this has a 2A frame.

It's okay if you move over to the 2A Page.  Lots of us are over there too. ;)
