WTB worm gear
« on: March 03, 2020, 10:44:53 PM »
Hello All, Just got a CJ3A frame with a CJ2A body. (the engine mounts are offset?).
I'm looking for a worm gear for the steering assembly and was told by a vendor that the current supply of worm gears sold by most of the suppliers have an issue with the worm gear not being machined correctly, and he doesn't foresee any correct ones being manufactured for at least 6 months to a year? Also, my worm gear shaft length is 40.5 inches long. Is that correct or has the previous owner just made a FrankenJeep? any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I’m putting together the same combo that you have I’ll try to remember to measure the shaft
Is your shaft bad? I rebuilt my Ross box because it was in bad shape but I used the old shaft
Nothing quite like old iron to work with

Hello,
I still have the old one, but the races on the worm gear are worn. I have been checking with all the vendors and they are telling me that the new ones that are out there are not quality.
