Fan Shroud and Thermostat
« on: June 13, 2018, 09:58:10 PM »
Summer is here so if you are running hotter than  you think you should be sure to run a shroud and thermostat. I was running about 180 to 185 on hot days , sometimes a little more. After talking with Tim on here I went with a  165 degree thermostat. Helped a little. Put a fan shroud on last weekend and was surprised by the results. I went for about a 25 mile run today with outside temperature around 87 degree and my gauge never went over 175. Just by adding these 2 items I lost 10 to 15 degree.
In summary If you're running warm and like me thought a thermostat and a shroud would make little to no difference reconsider.

That's a good outcome Ronnie.

Or...

That's totally cool!  Pun intended. ;)

Good thing is and it's probably just my imagination it seems to run better. This weekend it is supposed to be in low 90's here so that will be the test. I expect it to run about 180, maybe a little more on a incline, but still a big improvement. I also noticed when at idle the temp will come back down fast to about the thermostat rating. So all is working like it's suppose to. Thanks for the help Tim! Getting the shroud in there required some disassembling but well worth the results.

Yep, you gotta have a fan shroud - makes all the difference pulling air through the radiator.

i posted for people like myself thinking shroud just in the way of working on things but it really does make a difference in cooling.
