Odd markings..

Seems you find numbers, letters and all sorts of stamped marks all over these jeeps...

I found these on the shift boot retainer, and on both the clutch and brake pedal...

Maybe they were on the steel before the parts were cut or stamped?

I noticed those too on my '53. Not sure what they mean either...

Perhaps a mark left by the tool used to hold the part in place during stamping?

Could it be the mark of the maker?  If these parts were stamped out by a man at a machine and there were many making the same parts could each man have had his own mark.  Some shops you are paid by how many pieces you make during your shift.

Mine has that as well, I believe, with no supporting facts that its probably the mark of the company that manufactured them for Willys.  In my work with current OE manufacturers of vehicles they all require that incoming parts from suppliers be identified in some way as to the origin, that way if there is a problem with a part they can find the source quickly.  Just a guess, I have no idea who that mark might belong to.
