Brake. Pedal

hi Iam finally starting to put my cj3a back together! I have had the under carrage done for awhile. It was the body and painting that really slowed me up. My problem is ,after putting the tub back on the frame, the brake pedal is about a inch to the left of the hole in the floor.its a new brake arm and a new shaft. If I put the old one on ,it fits perfect,But it's wore out. The parts came from a well known dealer,not cheapos . I guess my question is has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Al,
I have had the same issue.  If you look closely at your original, it has a sharper bend than the reproduction. This bend puts it in line with the hole in the tub.

You have a few choices:

-Bush the original.
-Enlarge the hole in the tub.
-Bend the reproduction so it fits.
-There was a kit that was designed to squeeze the pedal arm while mounted on the shaft.  It would remove the slop.  It's not made anymore, but the components are fairly easy to duplicate. Search- Willys pedal slop.  A drawing should show up.

I bent mine to fit.  It took some trial and error, but eventually worked out.

Thanks for the quick response , I thought about bending it ,but didn't  know if it would brake.I guess I expect to much! I always think things should fit when new. Ha ha.I already installed the slop kit,pretty smart setup. Made my own. Thanks again , Al

I made one of these myself.  Just took a threaded rod, some washers, slices of pipe, and some nylon lock nuts.�I drilled two small holes near the edge of the doubled up washers to get a good weld, and welded them solidly to the pipe slices.� �I had a little slop in my system that but it didn't seem serious to me, but I got picked up on it by the provincial vehicle inspector when I went to register the Jeep here in Ontario.  I whipped this thing  up in a morning and the inspector specifically looked at it and passed it.� Works like a charm to this day.
