Omix Ada Solid State Distributor
« on: May 17, 2016, 10:47:33 PM »
I've had a Omix Ada solid state distributor on my desk for quite some time now, and I finally got around to replacing it with my old auto lite. I pulled the old one out and could not get the new one to fit. I just cant get it to go in all the way. I am very cautious about trying to force it in there because I don't want to risk damaging my cam or oil pump. I tried putting my old auto lite back in and it seated right into place. Has anyone else had this problem.

For those of you in VA, I found a shop that rebuilds distributors in Purcellville. If I don't have any luck I am going to have my autolite rebuilt.

I put one in a 46 CJ2A and had no problem and it ran fine, I have one to put in my M38 but haven't got to that point yet. I believe there is a little clip at the end of the shaft, check that and take some measurements.

Lee's post reminded me...

I had the same problem with a NOS distributor I bought..

If you have the anti-rattle clip on the end of the shaft it can make it difficult to install the distributor....it's that six sided clip that looks like a nut...

Take it off and see if the distributor slips into place, and then adjust the anti-rattle clip and see if you can get both to slide into place...

It will pop off the end of the shaft...hang onto it!!

And for what it's worth, my jeep runs noticeably smoother with that new distributor....what a difference!

Check that when you pulled the Autolite that the rattle clip didn't come off the shaft and remain in the hole. The new dizzy wont seat if there's an extra clip in there..
