Good evening everyone,

My pc died last week.   I had a link saved that pointed me to very specific directions on how to time/tune your L134 using a vacuum gauge, dwell meter, and timing light.  Does anyone know what I am talking about?   I have spent the last two and a half hours searching for it and I cannot seem to find it.  (yet I remember repeatedly stumbling across the link until now).

Any help would be appreciated!!

The procedure I employ to bring a carb in from the weeds is to start it with full choke and as it warms, push the choke in as far as I can without stalling until, at operating temp, it is fully open, or I can't open it any further without stalling. At the same time I'm watching the Vac gauge and Tach.

(Ideal vacuum reading is 21mmHg at warm, no choke, idle. Normal range is 15-22. So I'm looking for 600-700 steady RPM with 17-19mmHg vacuum. The odds of a 21" reading are 50/50, due to the average 65 year age of these carbs.)

I'm looking for a drop in vacuum while listening and watching for a drop in rpm. If the vacuum drops to 15, I leave the choke where it is and adjust the steel idle stop screw out until the vacuum rises to an acceptable level. I then adjust, as necessary, the brass idle mixture screw to keep rpm at an acceptable level. I then return to pushing the choke handle in, returning to the above procedure of adjustment, until the choke can be fully opened. Final procedure is to adjust the brass Idle Mixture Screw until I have readings of 600-700RPM and 17-19mmHg. It shouldn't take much.

Ryan,

Thanks for the fast response.  This isn't exactly it but, I think it will do.  The instructions I had began by telling you to start the jeep and then go get a cup of coffee.  Once the engine is up to temp you can begin the adjustments...

Either way, I think the referenced instructions will work well.  All be darned, once again Ryan you come to my rescue.  Hope all is well up north!

That kind of instruction sounds like something that may have been on the now defunct and dearly missed Vernco site....
