Thermostat and spacer placement

I went to the part store today and got a new thermostat.  When I took the housing off (only broke two of the three bolts), I found the old thermostat was is two pieces.  I'm confused how the new style thermostat is going to be held in place.  Does anyone have photos of how it and the retainer go into the housing.  Thanks!

This is what you will need.  I tore apart one L134 awhile back and there was some strange accordian looking thermostat in it. I haven't been able to find anything like it, but this will go with any typical thermostat you will find in a parts store.

Does the thermostat go in the housing before or after the retainer?
