Steering Box 140W Oil
« on: October 13, 2015, 11:25:22 AM »
The owner's manual specifies 140W gear lube for the steering box.  After research, I could only find one single weight 140W EP oil.  Sta-Lube, SL24228 is the part number for a quart container.  It can be special ordered through NAPA auto parts.

When I ran the 140W oil I had leaks around the sector shaft. There all all sorts of comments on running various mixtures in the gearbox but I decided to stay with the 140W as well. I solved my sector shaft leaking issue by running 2 seals - yes 2 seals - on the sector shaft. I have not had any leaking since my rebuild and this would be entirely up to you but this did the trick for me. The second seal butts right up to the first seal and will not be flush with the sterring housing but this does not cause any problems.
