My CJ3A has the oil filter mounted to the drivers side fender. It's the only one like this I have seen. Is this unique, and/or correct?

My 49 has the oil filter mounted this way too.� Correct me if I'm wrong, but somewhere I read that owners moved them there to accomodate frontal hydraulic accesories. My 3a came from Minnesota where I think it was used to plow snow with a hydraulic type setup.

You are correct. The fenders were a convenient spot to relocate oil filters to in order to make room for a hydraulic pump.

Going to an an alternator also means finding another place for the filter to be moved to. That is where my filter was although I made a different bracket for it. I have kept the alternator set up.
