It looks right, but in your installed picture the hood looks too high.  Try it without the rain gutter and see what happens. Did you do any welding or repair to the hinge??

Is there any give in the fender adjustment height or can the grill be lowered?

Ryan,
You have a beautiful jeep there, I think I would be tempted to put the hood back on as good as you can.  And then I would take the whole jeep over to the guy who did the work and politely ask him if he could help you get the hood aligned/installed correctly.  With a masterpiece like that, he is going to want to show off his work with pride, not have someone say " nice jeep, what happened to the hood".  I'm going to guess he will work extra hard to make sure that his name is properly reflected in the hood fit up.

So tonight I removed the hood and re-installed it with and without the rain gutter. There is no give to the fender play and the grill cannot be adjusted. None of the bubba-added support braces are hitting anything on the engine. There is one support that is costing me an 1/8" where the hood hits the top of the grill but even if that wasn't there the hood would still have issues. I'm pretty confident at this point that the hood is simply misshapen. It's been beaten and bubbified to an extent that it just isn't right. I was able to close up the gaps by about 1/4" but it's still obviously screwed up. I'm going to talk to the guy that did the work but I don't expect he'll be able to do much more.

On the bright side, at least for now I won't have to worry about overheating due to lack of airflow through the engine bay :-/

I hijacked this thread 10 months ago so I might as well ride it out. Look what showed up yesterday! Initial fit is a tremendous improvement over the original hood. I can actually pull and hook each latch one handed and without having to throw my weight on top of the hood to bend it down.

Soo....now I just have to learn how to prep and paint. How hard can that be? It only has to match the rest of Jeep color and finish precisely..

Just keep in mind that it's all about preparation...

Paint hides nothing, in fact it helps to bring out the imperfections so that you can see them ever so clearly!

Nice fit on the new hood...where it the rest of the jeep, out back?

Hey, as long as this is a free-for-all thread....how about a close up of your under seat fire extinguisher arrangement...I think I like it!

Here's a few pics of my extinguisher set up. I have two leg straps that I scavenged from a Gerber knife sheath. They are far from authentic looking but the buckles are big enough that I think I could easily release them even in the fumbling panic of a fire. I ran them through the gas tank strap and cinched the adjustment tight around the extinguisher. The extinguisher is out of the way but easily accessible at all times. It was intended as a temporary arrangement but it's been there for a year now, as evidenced by the rust thriving beneath it...

Panic?

I've thought briefly about how I'd go about fighting an engine fire....

I expect that by the time you realized you had a fire, shut the thing down, stopped and got out with the extinguisher, the hood would be too hot to open....besides, you probably would not want to introduce that nice draft in there and fan the fire.

It probably would not be effective to try and shoot through the radiator..

I thought maybe it would be best to reach under the jeep and shoot the extinguisher up.....or maybe through that 1/2" gap between the hood and fender....

A dry chemical will sure make a mess....co2 would be the way to go but it's expensive.

There was a picture of a burning jeep wagon on ewillys a month or two ago...

The fellow commented that one extinguisher was not enough.....

Quick release is good though...maybe to grab it and run would be the best plan....

Yeah that was very sad.
That was Kevin from Georgia. He drove that Wagon from GA to Moab and back a couple years ago.
He was chasing a fuel leak. It caught fire going down his driveway. He ran back to the house for a fire extinguisher so the fire had plenty of time to take hold. By then one extinguisher wasn't enough.
Keep the extinguisher in the vehicle.
Of course, realize that an ABC dry chemical will wreck everything electronic in your vehicle. If you can, use only BC type. In the summer I carry nitrogen and in the winter BC dry chem.

Every time I look at that picture it makes me feel sad...what a shame..

I've now been shopping for under-hood extinguishers....most I have found are for marine use, and trigger at 175 degrees F...that might be too low for a jeep engine compartment..but one that could be manually discharged might be an option..

Is it a nitrogen extinguisher?

I have an old Halon that I carry around, but it's pretty old, though it still shows that it is charged..

Nitrogen extinguishers can freeze in the winter. It doesn't harm them, they work when thawed. But they're no good while frozen.

The advantage of nitrogen is that it not only chokes the fire (no oxygen) but also dissipates heat reducing the possibility of re-ignition.

Meanwhile, Halon is slowly going away. It's already illegal in many countries. If nitrogen didn't have the freeze problem it would be the best solution for under hood.
