Windshield vent install...?
« on: October 28, 2013, 12:02:30 AM »
The vent was installed when I got the jeep but there was an extra nut and some washers between the windshield frame and the vent door hinge. I bought a vent seal, and with it in place it looks like there is a 1/4 to 5/16 gap between the hinge and the frame.

Does that seem right?

Is the seal just an add on or was it factory?

Is there a spacer that is supposed to be in there?

Thanks,
Randy

The first picture is without the seal, the second is with the seal....

It bolts right up to the frame with no spacer. The seal is factory too. You will want to take the handle off and bolt the vent on first.

Just what Nate said.  When I bolted my new seal on the first time, it stuck out about as much as what you are seeing.  After it was on about two weeks with it latched down, it settled in and sat flush.

OK thanks....I'll bolt it on and let it settle in...

BTW Mark, your suggestion of using a soldering iron to burn instead of punching screw holes in the seat fabric works great! I used it on the welting too....

That is great to hear!  Glad I could help!  I have gotten so much information off of this forum over the last six years, it is the least I could do to pass some of it on.
