Fractured and missing
« on: September 25, 2013, 10:54:02 PM »
The pic shows the part of the tc that handles the speedo cable.  Is this gap a problem?  Also look athte "oil" that came out of the tc......   This cant be right.   I had a quart of water in the pto case ,  a ton of water in the tc and gearbox.... Could I have put this in there with a pressure washer that I used to remove 12.5 lbs of grease from the engine / chassis?

Zeke,
You may have contributed to the water issue. There is a breather port, just outside of your photo shot, on the top of the TC. It normally has a little cap on it to reduce the chance of water infiltration. Check to see if the cap is missing.

I would replace the speedo gear housing.  I see these up for sale on eBay all the time.

Thanks Tim, are these housings "standard"?  Does the year matter?

Zeke,
They are standard on the Dana/Spicer 18 TC.  You might even be able to find one by posting in the 'Wanted' section on a couple of the Willys sites.  Again, fairly common.  If memory serves, this TC was used well into CJ 5 production.

They were also used on the International Scout vehicles also. Should be able to get one pretty easy. A guy on G503 just posted a bunch of T 90 stuff and transfer cases among others he aquired to see what value they had. It's in the CJ tech knowledge forum

Zeke, I'll give you a housing if you cover the shipping. A small Flat Rate USPS should get the job done; I thinks it's like $5.95... I can send you pics if your interested. PM me!!
