Dual master brake cylinder
« on: October 03, 2013, 11:54:09 AM »
How did you route your new brake lines when you installed a dually?   Did you fab your own, or is there a kit?   I'm keeping the 9" brakes as a test to see if the stopping problems are due to a lack of pressure from a single, so I suspect that I will need to keep the "S" lines as well.

Any thoughts?

Trying to remember, but it was almost 4 month ago and my brain is not quite as sharp as it used to be. We fabed the lines for my nephew's 56 CJ5. A Herm's kit with the banjo bolts.  The major problem was getting the correct fitting to adapt the brake lines to the banjo fittings on the dual master cylinder. We bought adapters, but they leaked. Gave Herm a call and he gave us the correct NAPA part number (I think he now includes them in the banjo bolt kit), got them and worked perfectly. I'll try to get the number and add it to this post if I can. The banjo bolt kit made things much easier BTW.  The other thing that we had a problem with is the double flair tool. Borrowed one from the parts store and it was a complete disaster. Could not make a decent flair. Borrowed an old Mac tools kit and it worked beautifully, perfect flair every time, so get yourself a quality tool.

Leave the brakes alone, they have worked for over 60 years so why change to something you THINK may be better. The only thing better is to go to 10" or 11" brakes. When you self engineer something you are entertaining a disaster and Murphy with attack you.
