Fan spacer/extension...
« on: July 07, 2013, 06:53:22 PM »
And yet another question....

I've seen pictures and a couple of in-person fan extension blocks on CJ-2a's, but not on the 3a's....

Do I need one? Now is the easiest time to install it...

My radiator has been boiled out and repaired, new water pump etc....

Thanks..

Are you talking a spacer between the fan and water pump? If so, I've never seen such a part on any 4cyl jeeps.

There aren't any spacers on the two 3As I have, fan is bolted to water pump with the pump pulley in between. Same thing with the F head in my 3B.
I did read something about using a spacer to move the fan blades closer to the radiator for better draw???

The "better draw" is what I've heard...

This is not a good picture of the fan, but if you look real closely you can see that the fan is not tight against the pump, but that there is a spacer in there....

It's the only picture I have of the spacer...

Hard to see in that pic but it almost looks like separate spacers or stacked washers at each bolt.

I know it's a bad picture...but it was a spacer, maybe 1 1/2"..

If I knew how to highlight it i would.... you can see the extension if you sight down the V between that riveted on strip and the radiator top...

But, if no one but me has seen one then I'm sure I don't need one!

Well, I think Bubba had owned that jeep for a while..it had power steering and high-backed bucket seats...it was a Lefty. Good body. Compared to what I finally bought it had an excellent body!

It ran like a watch, but had a nasty growl when driven....
