I believe that either one is okay.� My 1949 had a cloth webbing originally between the mudguard (the fender) and the body.� It can be purchased for that purpose.� I didn't want anything that would hold moisture in the place.� I thought about a rubber strip and didn't use it.� I didn't like sealant either.� I installed the mudguards with nothing between them and the body.� I like it.� Please do not use silicone rubber.� Paint will not stick to it and it becomes dirty and messy.
