Assembling mudguard

Hello everyone I follow with CJ3A restoration of slow but we went ahead.
We are to assemble the front fenders and these to be new when put in the body of the jeep has a little light.
I can put sealer and then paint or painted also thick rubber
Is that by putting sealer when stripping I will have to paint again.

You guys who think?

I would install the rubber mudguard and then paint.  It's easy to mess up new paint during assembly.

I enjoyed your photos from your first post.  Please keep us updated with new photos.

I believe that either one is okay.� My 1949 had a cloth webbing originally between the mudguard (the fender) and the body.� It can be purchased for that purpose.� I didn't want anything that would hold moisture in the place.� I thought about a rubber strip and didn't use it.� I didn't like sealant either.� I installed the mudguards with nothing between them and the body.� I like it.� Please do not use silicone rubber.� Paint will not stick to it and it becomes dirty and messy.

When I called and talked to Carl Walck about what to use between my fender and body, he recommended a product from 3M called "Strip Caulk".  I used it and it has worked very well.  Any auto body store should know what it is.

One more doubt, we know that CJ3A used in U.S. Navy
In the army there CJ3A? be positive if where I can find pictures.

The Jeeps made for the US Army were very similar but there were some differences to meet Army specifications.� The Army designated them as M38.� There are a few members of the CJ-3A Page that have done a beautiful job rebuilding an M38.� Bretto is one who has done that.� Look for his posts.�
Go to the, "Willys Photo and Story Threads..."�portion of this site and about 5 threads down you will see a thread called Arizona M38 Cheek it out.  There you will see also a post by Bretto and on his posts he has a link entitled, "Photo Diary of My Rebuild." On that link you will see many pics.  Maybe others will posts pics for you as well.
