I'm starting to think about getting new tires for my '49. The old 600x16's just aint cuttin' it. I want something with a little more sidewall and have good off road capabilities, as well as on road. Was thinking about Cooper St 215/85/r16's. I know people running them really like them. Any other tires people are using? I will not go with military NDTs.

This is why I want more sidewall height. It looks kinda dopey with the stock sizes on it...



But with the 29" tall tires, it looks much better.

I was looking for a DOT legal tire that has a "Turf Tire" profile whereby you can not totally
destroy the vegetation that you run over.   I aint a tree hugger, but a lot of my pasture
is fragile,  and I do run over the lawn now and again...and again.

Anyone know of such an animal?

Nate, those 29"s look like 33s or 35s on a TJ. �Way cooler and much cheaper.  But I do like NDTs, can't take anything away from them.

So far I have not done any mud.
They are great in snow - lots of plowing.
Good in rain - but I don't drive fast.
Only place I've lost traction is plowing snow, on pavement with a very thin skim of icyness. Even studded tires can't handle that.
I'm very happy with them.
The price has gone through the roof as have all tire prices.

Snow shares a lot of characteristics with mud, so I guess they will work pretty good. I hope someone will weigh in with experience though.

Snow and mud are the same. But, ice is where the difference lies. Unless the tires have a good amount of siping, a great snow tire will suck on ice.
