Motor Mount Issue
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:29:20 PM »
Hey guys, my jeep had a Hurricane motor in it when I got it I have removed it and put in a Go Devil, just getting my rolling chassis all done put the motor in and the mount is way off. Is there a plate that bridges this gap, or totally different motor mount or what? The frame mount is original I believe as its riveted to the frame?

The front engine plates were different on the 3a l-head engines from the 2a engines. The drivers side motor mount flange was bent forward, and the pax side bent back like the 2a's. This was to accommodate the dual action fuel pump.  I think there is an adapter...someone else will know where to find one...

Yeah, you have a 2A front engine plate. That mount should be facing toward the front.

You can swap your plates or find or make one of these:

In fact my, M38 came with a 2a engine and the previous owner made an adapter that I still have.  I found and swapped the correct engine plate in,  so this bubba adapter is sitting on the shelf if you are interested.

Bretto beat me to it, But an adapter plate of some sort would be the easy solution.  If the engine ran well that is the route I would go for now. You will not be able to use the dual fuel/vacuum pump, but if you don't need your wipers a lot it won't be an issue. If you lieve where wipers are used constantly then maybe it would be worth all the effort to make it right for a 3A. You'd need a 3A front plate, and a full timing cover gasket set, and you'd be pulling the camshaft or at least the gear to change the plate.

The 2a front plate also causes the engine to sit too low in the front in a 3A frame. A 3A mounting plate would be the best fix. I'll try to send pics.

Even with that steel block between the frame and the rubber mount the engine was too low in front and the transfercase, being tilted up rubbed on the underside of the tub. The engine and trans did not sit right in the frame at all. Even the clutch release tube which goes between the frame and transfer case was out of whack. Change the plate!!

OK thanks for the advise, I think I will search for the 3A front plate, not worried about the dual fuel/vaccuum pump I just can't stomach those ugly adaptor options, after all this work I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, ha haha. Bad news a bitter pill to swallow but I appreciate everyones input.
