How many options did your jeep have?

How many factory options did you CJ3A originally come with? These include:

- front PTO
- rear PTO
- rear seat
- passenger seat
- 15" KH wheels
- dual tail lights
- soft top
- heater
- dual vacuum wipers

Any I missed or that should not be there?

My '53 came with:

- rear seat
- passenger seat
- 15" KH wheels
- dual tail lights
- soft top
- heater

And my '49 is a bare bones jeep with only a factory passenger seat. �;D

My Jeep has the rear seat pinch roller clips but no seat. Did all Jeeps come equipped with these clips? Or were they only installed if a rear seat was going in? Aside from that I have a passenger seat and a heater. No bluetooth or satnav.

My 51 has:

Passenger seat
heater
rear PTO
and clips for the rear seat but no seat
15" wheels

And it has a cigar lighter high up on the passenger side. Wire is old style, but probably a dealer/PO item

The seat was an option, including its attachment point hardware, so I think someone must have had a seat in your jeep at one point.

I can see a Willys dealer ordering a jeep with a seat and then some customer  not wanting the seat so it gets put in a different jeep or in the parts department, and the jeep gets sold with clips but no seat.

All the above is opinion, Bob W may have a definite answer for you.

Bluetooth was only available with the blueberry pie option.   I don't think SatNav was available.  8-)

Just a passenger, rear seat and tail lights as far as I can tell.

How would one find out?

Does your jeep have a passenger seat?

Does it have a harrison heater?

Does it have either PTO?

Those are the easy ones. The others take a little investigating.

If the footman loops on your tailgate have sheet metal acorn nuts, then it had a factory soft top.

I vaguely remember reading something about dual tail lights. I'm not sure what the details were about it, but when I checked my '53, it did. I think you could get either no reflector, reflector, or a tail light on the passenger side. I could be 100% wrong on this. Bob W will know. However, my '49 had no holes for nothing on that side.

As others have mentioned, you would have some roller clips at the very back of you bed for the rear seat to snap into. My '49 doesn't have them.

Of course, you will only know if your jeep hasn't been restored with some of these items. Most people add two tail lights, put a new tailgate on and add PTOs. So you may never know what it came with.

Leaking came standard on all jeeps prior to, well, I guess maybe it's still standard!

Mine had a chaff screen also, but it easily could have been added...oh and that weird jump seat....

You are becoming a historian of the 3A. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] � I highly recommend Bob W's CJ3A book. �The information you will find is invaluable.

One of the things I took away from it was the 'fair to average' commitment by Willys Overland to document the 3A transformation. �Bob does a terrific job of placing the puzzle pieces. �Not an easy process. �

I don't have it with me, but he lists all the optional features available on the 3A. �I believe there is even a 'hot climate' radiator option, which I think I have.

Haha, thanks Tim! I'm also working on early IHC history (up to 1922) because my Famous is super early. Having a first year and last year production 3A helps too.  

What is the hot weather climate radiator you speak of?

Hi Nate.

I fibbed a little.  The Hot Climate Radiator is on my 2A, but the option was carried through to the 3A.

Not to slop up this thread with other info, but I just reviewed the list in Bob's book.  It appears you could buy just the half cab option.  Could solve the question as to why you have Phillips head screws on some of your footman loops.

Thanks for the info Tim! I had my '53s radiator recored, but I remember the fins being closer together. It may have had that option too.

I think you solved the mystery then on the screws. �[smiley=thumbsup.gif] I'll say it had had a factory half cab then! Meet in the middle.
