That's the speedometer cable. The parking brake is in the lower right corner.

OK I see it......my speedometer cable was gone also but the e-brake cable was there....very helpful information as always!

Thanks for posting the spring photo Nate. Those springs are another one of those high failure rate items that are difficult to find in place.

Nate, how much tension does that spring have?  Mine is missing and I'm trying to decide on a replacement.  Is it about as strong as a carb return spring?

Also, is this spring in addition to the one located inside the cab around the foot starter?

It's probably a little bit stronger than a carburetor return spring. The spring's wire diameter is 0.067" with a spring rate of 11.8 lbs per inch.

Originally there was only one spring as seen in Nate's photo, none inside the cab.

Bob, when did that change take place and what would be considered "original" for a 1951?  Is one method better than the other?

Which change are you asking about?

In 1951 the starter would have be an MZ 4162, starter rod 801171 (this is slightly longer but not as tall as previous design), spring clip 800244 (Z shape), and spring 646627.

I am thinking we need pictures of all those parts to redo our starter rod/block page on the main website....I'm beginning to see why you told me what ya did about that page, Bob.

I don't have any of that stuff in my Pintojeep for some strange reason, so if anyone has good pictures of the required parts, post away..  :)
