BODY PARTS!!!
« on: June 28, 2012, 07:52:16 PM »
Well 7 months after finally sending them in and two body guys later, a few FINISHED body parts finally arrived back in my garage today. Still waiting on the big one - the tub - but I'm pretty psyched to have at least a few pieces to work with after being at a complete standstill for a few months now.

The color was supposedly derived from some Dupont archive and is supposed to be "Potomac Gray". It is a little different than I expected but not a bad color either way. I've never really seen anything "Potomac Gray" so it may be a dead-on match and I still wouldn't be sure. Here it is:

That looks beautiful. Is that a spot light hole on the top of the fender?

Hmmm...good question. I have no idea. That fender is the only "non-original" body part. The original one was too far gone to save. I ended up buying this one on ebay. The seller said it came off a 2A. I never really noticed those holes. Looks like I'll have to find a nice spotlight now   ;)

Ryan,
That may have been a hole you would have wanted to fill. My fender had that hole...

You could use the hole for a BO light...

I know it's military, but you may like how it looks. You may even be able to convert it to a spot light.

Looks real nice Ryan!
The hole in the fender looks about in the right place for the rear mounting hole for a BO light like Tim mentions.  Tim, did you use 23070 paint?  It's what I have been using on my M38 and love it.

Yep!  23070.  I couldn't be happier about that choice.  Love the color, the level of gloss, and the way it covers.

By the way, I did get the trailer plug cover.  Thanks again.

There were a few holes that I did have filled - several in the grill from when the PO sheet metal screwed wire mesh in place as an improvised chaff screen and a bunch others in the tub. I missed the extra holes in the fender. With as many other little imperfections this project has I suppose I can live with this one too. I'll be able to tell it apart from any other Potomac Gray Willys in the supermarket parking lot now.

Only you and yourself will see the imperfections.  Anyone else will only drool.  It's gonna look great.  Just look for the crowd of people in the parking lot if you forget where you parked.
