M38 top and bows on a CJ3A
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:19:45 PM »
I'm considering placing an M38 top on my CJ3A - not militarizing it - I just prefer the look and function.  Can anyone steer me towards measurements for the placement of the bow brackets along the body sides?  Thanks.

Hi Ranger.
I did the same. I'm not home right now, but I can measure mine and post them later today.

I will say that mine may not be dead on spec. I positioned the front most stowage bracket at a point where I thought the top bow looked the best when in the stored position.

Okay Ranger,
Hopefully these photos help. Keep in mind, I started the measurement from the back of the Willys I used a square at the back to position the tape measure.

WOW!  This is perfect.  Thanks so much for the details and photos.  That 3A looks great.  Did you add the tool inserts to the tub?

Hi John,

Your welcome. Hopefully, this helps. The 3A, 2A and 503 pages have been so helpful to me. I can rarely help folks in return. There are so many smart Willys people out there. This was my chance to help someone else.

I did cut my original panels and welded in the tool inserts. I used Jpet's  drawings.  (2A Page). I really liked the way the tools look hanging on the side of an old Willys. That is probably why I ended up dressing my 3A like an M38. Like you, I also liked the functionality and the way the M38 Top bows look. Especially in the stored position.

Good Luck with your project.

For the truly lazy (like myself), Beachwood sells a template of the bow and footman loop locations.  Just tape it on the body, mark the holes with a Sharpie, then drill away.
