Seat Belts

So I'm finally reaching the home stretch on drilling all the holes in my reproduction tub. �Who knew such a simple, small vehicle like a Willys had 6,000 holes you have to locate and drill.... >:(

Anyway, I'm looking at putting some original looking seat belts in and was wondering if anyone has a picture of these from Walcks....

This has been discussed many times on the various jeep forums. Unless you have a rollbar, seatbelts are not recommended. In a rollover situation, without a rollbar, your best chance of survival is to be thrown out of the vehicle. Otherwise it is virtually a 100% certainty that you will be crushed. But, it's your choice.

Hi Mark,  I got mine at JC Whitney and am very happy with them.  It's the old lift up type like the airlines and older cars used to have.  I like having the belts.  On a bumpy road they keep you in the seat.  On smooth roads I guess if I ever got in an accident I'd rather stay in the jeep and take my chances than be thrown out on to the pavement.  Where I drive and the way I drive, I feel it would be unlikely that I would roll over, but Larry's right, that is a decision we all have to make.

Larry is right about the seat belt deal. I put a set of belts in like the ones aboyandhisdog posted just to make my wife feel safer. I don't use them but she does.

I have a roll bar I removed because the design of it is so it will collapse as the vehicle rolls to the side so it is worthless. It has no cross bracing and is only bolted to the top of the rear fenders and would rip out as it rolls.

There is another option, the MB and Maybe the CJ2A had a belt that acted like a Les Nessman doorway, it just closed off the body where you might fall out on a curve.  Little bit more security, its an option.

Thanks to everyone.  I decided to go ahead and put them in.  I probably will not use them, but I will at least have the option to..........and my wife will stop giving me grief.

For everyones info, I ordered the ones from Walcks that I had the link posted to.  These are the "push button" style with a big red button in the middle like the photo they have for the retractable style.  I'll probably return them as I like the aviation style latch better.

Ok please explain the Les Nessman doorway reference.   As I remember wasn't he the newsman on some sitcome in the 70's.  But that's all I remember.

Les Nessman was the news reporter on WKRP in Cincinnati. He pounded his chest as he did the news reports like he was in a helicopter. The funniest show was when they dropped the turkeys from a helicopter. Well, there were many other funny episodes as well.

Thanks for posting that link. I was ROTFLMAO as I watched it. Man I loved the WKRP series. They had two fine looking women in the series and it's always nice to see fine looking women.

One of the fun parts was to look for where Les had the bandage or bandaid on each episode. He was such a klutz that each week he had a different boo-boo.

Loni Anderson was worth watching even if you had the sound off! �:)

Ok the Les Nessman doorway.  
Les had an ego problem, it was bigger than he was and the station manager had Les out on the floor in a desk not an office. Les was convinced that he deserved an office because he was the News Department.  So he took masking tape and put it in square around his desk and left an opening for a door.  Anytime someone tried to talked to him, he made them go to the "door", when he didn't want to talk to anyone he put tape across the door opening and pretended his door was shut.  Funniest little guy ever.  

So the straps, they are about as effective at closing the door as a Les Nessman's tape door....God I miss Loni Anderson and Johnny Rocket!!
