Gunslinger, your right about that. When the steering gears are centered the slop is taken out of them but as the wheel is turned one direction or the other the gears begin to have slop. That is one rason why when the gears are worn out if you try to take the slop out it makes the wheel turn tight from side to side. The sector gear has a crown to it.
My gear box has reached that point in wear and can no longer be adjusted.
