Windshield vent wire

Been away for a while, but back to finishing up our mystery 3a. �Our windshield is missing the wire that is used to hold the vent handle in the open/closed position. �The only information I've found is here - http://cj3apage.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Tech&action=display&thread=1225 �

Has anyone done a fabrication or have a source for a replacement?

I guess your referring to the spring on the lever. I never have liked the way the vent lever works so I made my own.

No, I'm missing the wire that the handle "hooks" to so that the vent stays opened or closed. �It appears to be a bent 1/4" or so rod to a "U" and tack welded to the windshield frame. �My was ripped off somewhere along the line, so the vent just flaps. �Could you do a quick measurement on how long (including the bend) the wire might be?

I knew there was quite a discussion on this topic on the old forum.  Now I see it's the one you included in your original question.  Doesn't it answer your questions completely?

I  just read the complete thread and it does give me what I need.  Don't know how I missed it the first time.  Thank you for the help and sorry for being such a bone head.

If you have a diagram, that would be great.  I think I may be able to construct something based on the old note, but I can use all the help I can get.

Don't worry about.  We're all in this together (and we enjoy our old Jeeps).  You can see that there is a lot of help here so take advantage of it and we're glad you have joined us.

Barry, I was looking at the part you need to make and got to thinking. I can make a drawing of the outline of the part from the top and the side to show it's form and curvature and I would have to mail the drawing to you to be sure it is exact size to the original.

The other option is I can bend one up for you that is as close to the original as I can make it and send it to you.

Which do you prefer? I have the 1/4" rod laying on my workbench right now.
