Loud Wining over 30 MPH

My 3A has a loud wining noise coming from under the floor when I get over 30 miles per hour in 2WD.  I have replaced the intermediate shaft in the transfer case and that helped a little.  Any ideas of common worn out parts that can cause a loud wine in a 3A?

Well, worn gears will whine a lot. Mine whines a lot more in third gear than first or second because in third the counter shaft is not loaded and it can spin freely against the input shaft gear and low/reverse gears. Unless you replace all the gears in the tranny and transfer case I don't think you will get rid of the whine and even then you may still have some.

It's not really hurting anything so don't fix it.

Find another CJ3A owner in your area and have him compare the two Jeeps for noise or go to a manual tranny rebuild shop and ask them if it is normal noise.

perhaps your ears are sensitive to the frequency of the noise. Some people are more sensitive to some frequencies than others.

You really need to compare your Jeep to some others.

This one is simple but try it.  The seat bolt for the drivers side front left  may be too long, if so it will contact the transfer case and transmit all the noise into the tub, thus turning your entire jeep into a speaker.  Try backing the bolt out and putting a spacer under it to lift it up a bit, see if that makes a difference.
