Crankshaft endplay?
« on: May 06, 2011, 09:28:08 PM »
I am finishing up the new crank/bearings installation in my 3A and am having some trouble understanding how to set the crank endplay.

I've read over a post on crank endplay at the CJ3B website but am still not completely understanding what to do. Heres the link to that forum:

One problem is that everything I read about it assumes the pistons are out of the engine but mine are in the engine and that makes it hard to get the crank in place.

Any tips or tricks for a Willys newbie??   :)

If you push the pistons all the way to the top of the bore and lay the crank in so the throws are horizontal there should be enough clearance for you to set the end play. Then you can pull the rods down and put the caps on them.

That works with almost any engine.
