Does Your CJ3A have a DJ3A Body?
« on: April 30, 2011, 07:22:18 PM »
Hi all, We have been working hard to learn more about the DJ3A and trying to assemble a Production / Survivor Chart. We now have much of the production info to the end in either late 1964 or early 1965. We are very involved on The CJ3B Page DJ3A / Surrey Forum. Many of these bodies found their way onto CJ frames. For that reason I'm happy to get more folks involved. 56337 numbers were the Willys nomenclature number for the DJ3A from 1956 to 1963 and did not specify what level of trim. In late '63 at model changeover to '64's the prefix changed to a Kaiser based number, and a little more specific info surfaced. 8202-23567 is a documented 1964 base model DJ3A built in Oct. 1963. We have a very few of these Kaiser numbers. Real 1964 Surrey models show the nomenclature number as 8204 and have at this time two documented survivors, 8204-24210 (built late April 1964) and 8204-24238 ( Built May 1964). I have one documented 8203-23867 DJ3A (Built early Jan. 1964). Supposedly the number 8205-XXXXX was used, but no examples have surfaced. The last known documented DJ3A at this time is 8202-24684. This may very well be the last DJ3A built probably in Jan. 1965. (Dec. '64 numbers were 24638 to 24641) As you can see this is 43 units later than previously known. We know that DJ5 production started in Feb. 1965. Please help us Willys Historians understand more about these Willys outcasts and check your Serial Numbers. Maybe you have a DJ3A body on a CJ3A chassis. Email me with information you may have: glenns@tdstelme.net Thanks, Glenn. Also if you would like a chart as it exists now, just understand it is changing as info comes in.
