Just a note to you guys doing turn signals.. Before we went on the road I got my helper to wire up a few signal switches we had lying around with a set of cheap blinkers on a board, as a beginner how to do wiring project. One thing we did discover, which some may not know, is that the turn signal switches out there are of several diffenent wiring schemes and operate in several ways.
There is the basic turn signal switch sold by many stores back in the 60's that used a whole new set of lights, front and rear. These were cheap, easy to wire up, and resulted in many classic cars having those darn lollipop lights mounted at each end. All the turn signal switch did was operate the new lights, leaving the old lights stock. You do not want this style on your jeep, unless you do not mind extra lights
There is a light switch made by signal Stat that has a model number of either 800 or 900 on its case..It can be wired one of two ways. The one you want uses the single filament parking light bulb and flashes that single filament, leaving the other one lit or unlit depending on whether it is on or not. There is also a second style that uses a two filament parking/turn signal up front, which you will need to modify your present lights for.
The key to which you have is to look at the wiring. There are diagrams online, one has a parking light feed wire and one does not. (Both have brake light feeds and b + feeds)
These signals were used on all sorts of things, and can be taken off old school buses, older trucks with added signals, or if you are like me, bought off the internet from fellow jeepsters.
I'd recommend setting up a test with your new used signal, using some cheap trailer lights and wire nuts, to make sure it works correctly before you attempt to install it in a jeep. Of the three setups I got used from fellow jeepers, only ONE turned out useable, and it was the cheapest one I bought. The nicest looking one in a beautiful chrome housing turned out to be good for parts.
Also be aware some of these are set up for four way flashers and others are NOT. Most of the four way flasher ones have either an additional tab you pull out to operate them, or you pull the signal lever out to operate it.
Some also self cancel with a rubber wheel that rubs on the steering wheel. I don't care if that part works for my own jeep but it is a frequent failure part. Whether replacement wheels can be obtained I have not discovered yet.
