Shipping a Tub Long Distance

    I�ve been looking for a replacement tub for many years.  It is hard to find a good one here in the Northeast.  I think I�ve found one that I can work with, in Georgia.  It will be cheaper to have it trucked to Maine than for me to make the four day, 2,400 mile roundtrip.  I know many of you may have either had bodies shipped or know of someone who has.  How should a tub be palletized (or not) to make that kind of trip without it being damaged by what may be many truck changes and stuff being packed in, on, and around it?  I would appreciate any and all help you may have.  Thanks, Terry

Boy it seems like that is going to be awfully cost prohibitive. Granted I've never shipped a tub but I'm thinking you'll want it crated which will add quite a bit of weight. And unless the one you found in Georgia is near perfect you're still going to spend a fair amount of time and money repairing it once it arrives.

If it were me I'd hold out and try to find something closer. Even if it's rough you could spend some of that shipping money paying an experienced local welder to repair it for you.....or even consider a newer MD Juan repro tub.

I think it's time for a road trip. I went to PA to get one. Another option is to have it shipped through fastenal, which is free.

Terry ... Here are a couple of pictures of the crate that my new tub was shipped in.  It was basically a two pallet crate made from 1x1 square steel tubes.  I do not know the shipping cost because new tubs are shipped "free" but it should not be too expensive.

Jim, You can add an attachments for your pics by clicking the arrow near the attachments, this will create new attachments 1, 2, 3,......Then you click on Choose file and pick your picture.

The attachments menu is right down the message box.

Here are a couple of pictures of the crate.  It was made of 1x1 square tubing frame covered with thin plywood.  It was mounted on two pallets.
