The best penetrating oil in the world
« on: February 08, 2015, 12:36:49 PM »
I keep seeing a lot of guys on here that seem to be using PB Blaster as their go-to penetrating fluid.  it is good stuff, and I use it, but only on stuff that isn't too bad, or too important.  for my worst stuff, and for stuff that I deem to be important, I use Kroil, or Aerokroil. (kroil comes in a spout can, and aerokroil comes in an aerosol can)  my dad always used this stuff, and I've been using it for a long time.  it is absolutely amazing. (no, I don't work for the company, and no I'm not being paid to advertise for them.)  the only reason I still use PB Blaster, is because I save my kroil for the times when I really need it, because it's kind of pricey.  anyway, check it out, it might be worth your time.  I would post a pic of the can, but don't have one right now.  comes in an orange can.

One of these days I will pick up some....PB  is available at Walmart and that's the main reason I keep it in stock instead of Kroil... It is such a huge step above WD.

Where are you finding the Kroil?
Owner of the world famous?? Pintojeep 3A and one yet to be named stock project 3A.
Based in central TX and upstate NY.

Amazon is (almost) always your friend.
http://www.amazon.com/Kano-Kroil-Penetrating-liquid-KROIL/dp/B000F09CF4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423512988&sr=8-1&keywords=kroil
http://www.amazon.com/Kano-Aerokroil-Penetrating-aerosol-AEROKROIL/dp/B000F09CEA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1423512988&sr=8-3&keywords=kroil
Free shipping if you buy $35 or more.
We are approaching the time when Amazon will no longer be sales tax free. I had heard they were going to start collecting state tax on 1 Feb but I bought something this past week and wasn't charged - yet.

But
Even better than Kroil according to someone.

This was posted on one of the forums a few years back. I can't remember where. It lists the torque required to break loose a specific, rusted nut/bolt combination. Don't have the specs but it doesn't matter as it's all relative.

Penetrating oil........... Average load

None ...................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................... 238 pounds
P Blaster ................ 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ........... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ................ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix...........53 pounds
The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50-50

It's interesting that P Blaster, the most popular stuff is not much better than WD-40. My experience with P Blaster has been consistently diappointing. I still have 2 cans to use up. :(

it's actually made here in Nashville, so I'm able to go over to the lab and pick it up.

that's some pretty interesting info.  that "home brew" mix must be the bomb.  with my luck, if I made some, it would probably emit some poisonous gas and kill me.   :D

I concur about Kroil and if it doesn't loosen it then nothing will. Another product that is almost as good is called Hill Lube and I don't know where you can get it as the local electrical utility company uses it and I can get a can from a lineman if I ask them. Don't overlook Marvel Mystery Oil either especially if you are not in a hurry and let it soak in.

hmmm..  I've never heard of the "hill lube".  I would be interested in giving it a try sometime if I can ever get a hold of any.  and yes...  Marvel Mystery Oil does work pretty well.  I don't use air tools much, but when I do, I use MMO to lube them prior to use.

I'm a huge fan of the Acetone/ATF mixture.  I used it to break free an engine that hadn't run since 1987.  I used a tube, through the spark plug hole, to center this mixture over the piston.  5 hours of consistent use and the engine was free.  Love it.

according to the test results, it looks like it takes the prize.  I guess I need to mix myself up a batch.

Here is the Hilco company. It appears it is not an over the counter item so may be tough to find.
