does everyone like 5 degrees BTDC?
« on: June 05, 2016, 09:02:28 PM »
Just curious if anyone varies from the prescribed timing marks?  I have a hunch that my engine is favoring closer to 10 degrees advance.

Does high altitude have anything to do with timing?  What are you guys doing?

I have not tried this on my jeep....

But..

I read that 7-10 degrees BTDC on an MGA engine(4 cylinder, 1500cc overhead valve) will make it run better...so I set it that way and I think it's "happier"

You have to be careful of the idle speed as the auto-advance weights may be having an effect when you check the dynamic timing....no problem with static timing though....

Just learned that, indeed, you should advance timing about .8-1 degree for every 1000ft. above sea level.  I'm at 5300 ft. so that would put me right at 8-10 degrees BTDC.  So there ya go...

Well, I'll have to give that a try...we are at only 2800 feet but it may make a difference...
